Writing Update: January 19, 2021

Hello dear readers, hope things have been well for you this past week. Where I live it’s usually extremely cold at this time of year, but we have been given a rather mild winter, so I am appreciative that my thrice daily dog walks don’t leave me frozen and begging for a hot cocoa.

I felt something while writing this week that I hadn’t felt until this point, and thats excitement. Usually when I would sit down to write, it would make me feel a touch anxious and nervous, so I would often push it off till the end of the day if I did it at all.

A few times this week though, I had to pull myself away from writing and actually do other things. I had to force myself away, and I would feel upset that I had to stop. It was the first time I had ever experienced that, and honestly I am really excited for it. I think that’s a big personal accomplishment for me because I’ve always wanted to be a writer. I love thinking of far off fantastical worlds, and as they say, if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.

Well, if things keep going like this, I can honestly see this as something I pursue after writing this manuscript. Part of me worries that I am only pushing myself so much because I want to get it done for myself, but now I believe part of me wants to get it done because I enjoy it and I want to give my characters the story they deserve.

I’m still not as fast of a writer as many others I am sure. I’m only averaging a few thousand words per week, but with my newfound excitement, I think those numbers will increase greatly.

From what I have heard, I know plenty of other authors are reaching 10,000+ words per week, eventually finishing a book in only a few months, and that’s amazing to me. I can’t imagine finding the time to accomplish that. I would have to put everything in my life aside to reach those numbers, but to each their own.

How has your writing been this week? How many words did you get done? I’d love to talk about your writing with you in the comments!

  1. Really getting into and excited about whatever you’re writing is an amazing feeling! I hope it lasts from you. Being a writer is so relative and depends on so many things. I’m always amazed by people who can write 10,000 words per day or per week, but I know that’ll never be me, and I’m okay and happy with that. 🙂 I just don’t have the time these days. My writing week has been full of editing, which is far less exciting to me than actually writing lol.
