Real Neat Blog Award

Hello dear readers, welcome to my take on the Real Neat Blog Award. I was tagged by the wonderful Lauren over at Lala’s Book Reviews. If you don’t follow her already please do. She is a terrific YA Blogger and reads some amazing books you’re going to want to add to your TBR.

  • Display the Award Logo.
  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and post a link to their blog.
  • Answer the questions of the one who nominated you.
  • Nominate some bloggers.
  • Ask them seven questions.

Lauren’s Questions:

What was the thing that made you feel like an actual blogger?

Honestly, I am not sure if I have had this feeling yet. I always feel a little bit out of the blogging world because I don’t read 10+ books a month. I’m lucky if I have time to finish one or two, while others read these amazing series I know I never will. Plus, I don’t like Booktube at all and I feel like that leaves me out of a lot of conversations.

Do you have any particular reading habits?

I really like reading on the elevator. It’s a bit odd, but I take an elevator 6-12 times a day. If you account for stopping on one or two extra floors, plus the fact that I live on the 23rd floor of my building, you can imagine how much reading I get done on the elevator each day.

Do you write about anything other than books on your blog? If so, what?

I review manga almost every month, but that’s pretty much a book. Other than that I review some anime, movies, and TV shows.

What is the sweetest book you’ve read this year?

I don’t really have an answer to this other than maybe Priory of the Orange tree. It had some nice romantic moments if that’s what “sweet” means.

Which author would you love to hang out with for a day?

Dr Seuss. I know nothing about him, but I think he would be a lot of fun to spend a day with. See how he reacts to the world and how he sees it.

What fictional world would you love to visit but not live in?

The world of Fullmetal Alchemist. I think it would be amazing to see alchemy happen around around me, and maybe even do a bit of it myself.

Who are some of your favorite blogger/booktubers?

Like I mentioned before, I don’t like booktube too much. I don’t know why, but I have a big thing about voices, and if someones voice annoys me I can’t watch their videos, plus I don’t care too much about what they read because I know I’ll never read them.

I do enjoy a lot of book bloggers though, which you can find a list of here: 5 Bloggers You’ll Want to Follow

My Questions:

  1. If you could only read one colored book for the rest of time what would it be?
  2. What is one book you wish you had never read?
  3. Dogs or cats?
  4. Which celebrity would you want to narrate your future (or make believe) book?
  5. What country’s authors do you want to read/read more of?
  6. What Shadowhunter family do you think you’d belong to?
  7. What is your favourite recipe that you use?

The Avatar Blogger Award

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. I’ve heard stories about the old days, a time of peace when the Avatar Blogger kept balance between the Water Critics, Earth Reviewers, Fire Writers, and Air Readers. But that all changed when the Fire Writers attacked.

Only the Avatar Blogger, master of all four blogging elements could stop the ruthless Fire Writers. But when the world needed them the most, they vanished. A hundred years have passed, and the Fire Writers are nearing victory in the war.

Some people believe that the Avatar Blogger was never reborn into the Air Readers, and that the cycle is broken. But I haven’t lost hope. I still believe that somehow, the Avatar Blogger will return to save the book world!

The journey to become the Avatar Blogger has been long. You have had to answer the questions to four different tags; Book of Water Tag, Book of Earth Tag, Book of Fire Tag, Book of Air Tag.

If you have completed all four, then congratulations, you have officially completed your training and have become the Avatar Blogger.

There are no questions for you to answer. All you must do is go and spread your wisdom and teachings. Announce to your followers of your success and share with them all you have learned.

If you have not done so yet, feel free to put the Avatar Blogger Award logo onto your blog for all to see!

If you have not been tagged in any of the four different tags, let me know and I can send you the questions you will need to answer.

Otherwise, creating the tag was a lot of fun. I enjoy the world of the Avatar, and doing research on the different nations made a few sleepless nights go by easier.

The tags haven’t taken off too much just yet, but I’m hoping things will pick up soon!

Book of Fire Tag: Avatar Blogger Award

Water. Earth. Fire.

A hundred years have passed and the Fire Writers are nearing victory in the war.

Some people believe that the Avatar Blogger was never reborn into the Air Readers, and that the cycle is broken. But I haven’t lost hope. I still believe that somehow, the Avatar Blogger will return to save the book world!

Stepping into the Fire Nation might overwhelm you with all the red everywhere; clothes, buildings, banners.
Let’s see those pretty red book covers!

The Fire Kingdom is warm, with plenty of places for a tropical vacation., possibly even close to a volcano.
You won a prize for a trip to a tropical location. Where are you going and what books are you bringing with you?

Well I don’t really have a choice on this one, because my girlfriend would make me pick Hawaii, but I would be okay with a view like this:

Bamboo temple - Picture of Maui Eco Retreat, Haiku - Tripadvisor

I would probably bring a Wheel of Time book and my iPad since I have four books I need to read on there for different tours/personal interests.

The Agni-Kai. A high-stakes duel between two Fire Writers to defend their honour.
What book would you defend till the end, even though others may hate it?

I don’t think a lot of people will ever hate this series, but I would defend the Redwall series till my dying breath. It got me into reading fantasy and it has always been dear to my heart.

Fire is a dangerous element and even the most skilled writers are at risk for getting burned. The Fire Writer Lord Zuko is a perfect example.
What is one book that has touched who you are, and will stay with you forever?

I think the Starlight Archive will stick with me forever. There are so many meanings that come from events and quotes in that book, that I know I will remember it forever. My future tattoo will actually be something that came from the books.

The origin of fire writing was to use the fire as an extension of the body, like it was a part of you.
What is one bookish accessory or piece of memorabilia you can’t live without?

I don’t really have one specific one, but I’m really liking my Straw Hat Crew Funko Pops. I plan on getting the entire crew one day, but I like having their big heads popping up on my shelves.

A skilled fire writer can use fire to propel themselves through the air, almost as if they were flying.
Are there any books you are looking forward to reading?

Oh I could probably list a few dozen in this case, but that wouldn’t be interesting. I am really looking forward to reading the Witcher series as well as the Legacy of Ash series.

Fire bending is the only form of bending where you create the element out of nothing.
If you could make the perfect book, what would be included; 10 words or less?

Magic, trilogy, world building, monsters, romance, death, betrayal, books.

I am tagging:
I’m All Booked Up
Erin – Lavish Literature
Ash – For the Love of Books
Debbie – Debbie’s Library

If you have made it this far, you have mastered the element of Water, bringing you one step closer to becoming the Avatar Blogger. Good luck to you in your training.

Book of Water Tag

Of all the nations in the Avatar world, the Earth Kingdom is the largest in size.
What are your three largest books?

Unsurprisingly, the three Stormlight Archives books are my longest three books. They’re all over 1,000 pages, and I expect the fourth one to be up there when it finally comes out too! Check out my list of my 10 Longest Books.

Ba Sing Se, the capital of the Earth Kingdom, has absolutely beautiful walls that have stood the test of time.
What book would you leave buried in a time capsule, to be opened by someone you don’t know 30 years from now?

OOH good question Andrew, this is actually really tough. I think I would have to go with a tried and true series that I will forever hold in my heart; the Redwall Series. I think they are under appreciated, in my bookish world at least, and they were a major part of turning me into the reader that I am today. I think people even 30 years from now can appreciate their values.

Citizens of the Earth Reviewers are recognized by their green attire.
Share some of your books that have a green cover.

I actually own very few mostly green book covers, but here are some with at least a splash of green!

Though many people of the Earth Reviewers live in large cities, a lot of its citizens are migratory people.
What book did you DNF the quickest, and why did you give up on it?

I’ve never actually DNF’d a book before. I have a self rule that if I start a book, movie, or TV season, I have to finish it. I can always find something that I like about it. If theres a second book, season or movie, I might not continue with them, but I will always finish the ones I started watching or reading.

Any Avatar or Earth Reviewer would be honored to be taught by Toph, the creator of metal bending, and close friend to Avatar Aang.
Which author, dead or alive, would you love to sit down with for a meal?

I think I would pick Robert Jordan. He is the author of one of my top two book series; The Wheel of Time, and seeing as he has passed away, I would love to just fanboy over how amazing his world is and how much it has inspired me as a hopeful future writer.

Earth Reviewing relies on standing strong and outlasting your opponent, looking for the perfect moment to strike.
What is one book you had on your TBR on too long, and you wish you had read sooner?

Hands down, Priory of the Orange Tree. I bought it on a whim because I saw people gushing over it on Twitter, but always put it to the back of my TBR pile. I’m mad at myself for doing that because I would definitely consider it one of my top 10 favourite books right now, and Samantha Shannon is one of my favourite authors.

Iroh, a friend to the Avatar and one of the wisest men you’ll meet referred to the Earth as the element of substance.
If you were skilled at making one thing, whether its artsy, music related, or more home improvement focused, what would it be?

I would really like to be good at making things out of wood. You know, desks, chairs, tables, etc. I just think there is a hidden beauty there that is so simple, and practical, but heavily under appreciated.

Hello dear readers, I hope you are as excited about this as I am. I came up with this idea for a blogging award. I want it to get readers excited about doing tags and get them looking for the other three.

The young men of the water tribe often give a betrothal necklace to the women they intend to marry.
What is your favorite book couple, or what two characters do you wish could be together?

I think my favourite book couple is Clare and Jaime Fraser. Nothing like love transcending time itself right? We can all hope to love and be loved like that I think.

Water tribe members are often recognizable by their blue clothing.
What are some of your beautiful blue book covers?

The first water benders learned to bend from watching the moon move the oceans.
Share a book you have with the moon on the cover or in the title.

Master water benders can use it fluidly to go from attacking to defending, giving it great diversity.
What genres do you like to read the most, and what is appealing about each of them?

Looking at my recent reads, all I’ve read for the past while is Fantasy. There are so many reasons why I love fantasy, and if you want to see them, read this post. Otherwise I’ve been reading some non-fiction lately and it has been really eye opening. I like reading different perspectives than my own.

Both the Northern and Southern Water Tribes live close to the spirit portals, meaning they live in harmony with nature.
Share pictures of one location in your country you’d like to inspire the setting of a book.

Western Canada National Parks

This is Jasper National Park in Canada. I’m thinking its either the location of a spy base or the setting of a stranded type survival story.

Healing, ice, water, blood, cloud and plant bending are all forms of water bending, with a range of skills in each.
What is your favourite aspect of being a blogger?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, and I think my favourite thing about blogging is the reading. That sounds lame I’m sure, but being a book blogger has made me read books I normally wouldn’t have picked on my own, and it’s had ups and downs, but overall it has been very fun.

Blood bending is considered an evil form of water bending, allowing you to manipulate the blood in a person’s body.
Who is your favourite book villain?

Iago, from the Shakespeare play Othello is my favourite I think. He is described as “the worst villain is the one who knows you best—the one you might even love.” He is a fantastic villain and a dangerous trickster.

My Very Own Blogging Award

Hello dear readers, I have a bit of news for you today that I hope you’ll enjoy.

One of my goals this year was to come up with a blogging award. Originally it was supposed to be an award to showcase a selfless blogger who is always there to share a nice word and who is always willing to help others.

I had ideas to get that idea rolling, but nothing solid yet, so I might just hold that in my back pocket till I can work out the kinks.

BUT in the process, I did come up with what I think will be a really fun award that will get people wanting to do book tags.

I won’t give away too much just yet, but the name of the award is the Avatar Blogger award.

If you know anything about the show Avatar, you might be able to figure out that you might need to master four different elements or something??? I guess you’ll just have to wait and see.

What I can tell you is that the first part of that Award will be coming out tomorrow…so stay tuned!

How do you relax?

Reading, watching anime or Netflix, or just calming myself down at the end of the day

What language would you love to learn?

I think Mandarin would be really cool to speak, but more realistically something Western European. French or German I think.

Which planet you love to live on and why?

Well Earth, since it has breathable oxygen, but Mars would look beautiful I think.

What’s your weird habit?

Not really weird, but I bite my nails sometimes, and it bothers me that people have one eye that is bigger than the other…

I will not be asking any questions, or tagging any people. From what I can tell, a lot of my blogging circle has done this award recently, so if you are in the mood for a tag, then count these questions and this post as your official tag!
